A Taste of Spring: Cooking & Practical Life at Wayland Montessori
This spring, Wayland Montessori came alive with the sounds, scents, and sights of our Practical Life curriculum in action. Throughout the month, students immersed themselves in cooking experiences rooted in Montessori principles—making butter, strawberry jam, and freshly squeezed lemonade.
Each cooking activity was thoughtfully designed to help children practice real-world skills—like pouring, stirring, and measuring—within an environment that fosters focus, responsibility, and pride in their work. Children used real tools in thoughtfully prepared environments, reinforcing the Montessori approach to purposeful, child-led learning.
This joyful experience was a reminder that seasonal traditions and practical tasks can offer powerful learning opportunities. We encourage families to continue the fun at home—let your child show you how they made jam or squeezed lemons!
At Wayland Montessori, we turn everyday tasks into extraordinary learning moments.
