Cultures Around the World Illuminate Learning at Wayland Montessori

In March, Wayland Montessori classrooms came alive with a global journey rooted in the Montessori Method. Children engaged in hands-on cultural exploration that deepened their appreciation for the world’s diversity.

Our curriculum this month focused on geography, language, and global traditions—core elements of Montessori education. The children explored Ramadan through thoughtful storytelling and shared traditions from a classroom parent, blending learning with lived experience.

Ireland became a focus as students engaged in map work and learned about the island's characteristics. The celebration of St. Patrick’s Day included a cultural exchange that introduced Irish traditions, music, and language. A highlight was a group sing-along of “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” in Irish, joyfully led by Ciara, and supported by lessons on Irish vocabulary and counting.

Rather than using decorations, the classrooms reflected cultural richness through carefully curated Montessori materials, inviting children to explore each concept with purpose.

Family involvement remained essential to the month’s success. Their contributions brought meaningful depth to lessons and helped children make real-world connections. This partnership reflects our belief that empathy and curiosity are cultivated through shared experiences.

We’re grateful for the support of our families and encourage continued cultural conversations at home. You might hear your child counting in Irish or sharing facts about Ramadan and Ireland.

Thank you for helping us nurture thoughtful, globally minded children.
